1 Day Lake Nakuru National Park Safari from Nairobi
Lake Nakuru National Park is a compact park about 160 kilometres from Nairobi, covering 188 square kilometres around a shallow alkaline lake whose size rises and falls with the rains. Because it is close to the capital, it is the best park to visit when you have limited time in Kenya and still want to experience a safari.
The park was once world-famous for the huge flocks of lesser flamingos that turned its shores pink. In recent years, heavy rains have raised the lake level and many flamingos have moved to nearby lakes such as Bogoria, but Lake Nakuru still has over 450 recorded bird species and is a designated Important Bird Area. It is also home to Rothschild’s giraffes, waterbuck, impala, lions, leopards, pythons and both black and white rhinos.
