The park was established in 1946 being the first and only national park within a city, located just 10 kilometers away from the city center. The park covers 117km, consisting of plains, forests, steep gorges and lush vegetation along the river banks.
Several species can be found within this park including the endangered black rhino, lions, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas, buffaloes, giraffes and diverse birdlife recorded. Take a game drive to see four of the “Big Five” – lions, leopards, buffalo and rhinos, but no elephants.
Walking trails can be enjoyed; along with five picnic sites. Bird watching is popular here, with 400 species recorded. Turtle and tortoise watching can also be enjoyed.
The park is open for game viewing, bush dinners, film production and weddings; visit to the Ivory burning monument site.
Nairobi National Park Itinerary
Pick up from the airport at 5:45 AM and drive to Nairobi National Park. Have a game drive in the park where you have a chance to view baboons, giraffes, antelopes, zebras, lions and black rhinos. You shall have the game drive close to the Nairobi city skyline until 11:00 AM. Head out of the park and drive back to your Nairobi hotel, where we drop you off.
