3 Day Tsavo East Safari from Mombasa
This three-day safari gives you two nights and a full day in Tsavo East, Kenya’s largest national park and the closest big park to the coast. With a whole day inside the park, you can go much further than on an overnight trip: north to the Galana River and Lugard Falls, along the edge of the Yatta Plateau, and out to the waterholes where the park’s red-dust elephants gather.
We collect you from Mombasa, Diani or the North Coast, and the route and game drives are the same whichever lodge you choose. Pick from three: Voi Wildlife Lodge near Voi Gate, Ashnil Aruba Lodge beside Aruba Dam, or Satao Camp, a tented camp in the south-east of the park known for its busy waterhole.
Itinerary
Day 1: Mombasa or Diani – Tsavo East National Park (LD)
Your driver-guide collects you early from your beach hotel or Moi International Airport for the drive inland to Tsavo East, about three hours away. Enter the park and game drive to your lodge, arriving for lunch. Tsavo East covers about 13,700 square kilometres of open bush and grassland, and its elephants, coloured red by the dust they bathe in, are one of Kenya’s great sights. After a rest, head out on an afternoon game drive until sunset. Dinner and overnight at your chosen lodge (see lodge options below).

Day 2: Tsavo East Full Day (FB)
Take a packed lunch for a full day in the park. Drive north to the Galana River, lined with doum palms, where hippos and crocodiles live and elephants come down to drink, and stop at Lugard Falls, where the river forces its way through a narrow channel of rock. Visit Mudanda Rock, a long outcrop above a natural water catchment that draws wildlife in the dry season, and look out across the Yatta Plateau, one of the longest lava flows in the world. Lions, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, lesser kudu and gerenuk all live here, along with more than 500 species of birds. Tsavo is also the home of the famous man-eating lions that attacked workers building the Uganda Railway in 1898. Return to your lodge in the evening. Dinner and overnight at your chosen lodge.

Day 3: Tsavo East – Mombasa or Diani (B)
Set out early, when predators are most active, then return to the lodge for breakfast. Check out and game drive on your way out of the park, then head back to the coast for drop-off at your beach hotel or the airport in the early afternoon.
