6 Day Kenya Camping Safari: Masai Mara, Lake Nakuru & Amboseli
Camping in Kenya no longer means pitching a dome tent and going days without a shower. This six-day budget safari uses simple, well-priced camps, lodges and hotels with proper beds, linen and hot showers, so you can see the best of Kenya’s wildlife at a reasonable price. Spend two nights in the Masai Mara, a night at Lake Nakuru for rhinos, and two nights in Amboseli National Park, where big herds of elephants walk beneath Mount Kilimanjaro.
The safari is private, with a Land Cruiser and driver-guide for your group alone.

By road
Day 1: Nairobi – Masai Mara National Reserve (LD)
Your driver-guide collects you from your Nairobi hotel or the airport in the morning for the drive west, down the escarpment into the Great Rift Valley and on through Narok to the Masai Mara, arriving at Goshen Mara Camp in time for lunch. After a rest, head out on your first game drive and stay out until sunset, looking for lions, elephants, giraffes and the plains game the Mara is famous for. Dinner and overnight at Goshen Mara Camp.

Day 2: Masai Mara Full Day (FB)
Take a packed lunch and spend the whole day in the reserve, with a picnic in the bush. Head towards the Mara River, where hippos and crocodiles gather, and search the open grasslands for lion prides, cheetahs and leopards, along with the elephants, buffalo, topi and zebras that make the Mara so rewarding. From July to October, the wildebeest migration fills the plains and your guide will look for a river crossing. Return to camp in the evening. Dinner and overnight at Goshen Mara Camp.

Day 3: Masai Mara – Lake Nakuru National Park (FB)
Have an early breakfast and drive north-east to Lake Nakuru National Park, arriving for lunch. In the afternoon, game drive until sunset. Lake Nakuru is a fenced sanctuary for both black and white rhinos and the rare Rothschild’s giraffe, and its acacia woodland and cliffs also hold lions, leopards, buffalo and waterbuck. Depending on water levels, flamingos and pelicans gather along the shore. Dinner and overnight at the Eagle Palace Hotel in Nakuru town.

Day 4: Lake Nakuru – Amboseli National Park (FB)
After breakfast, set off for Lake Naivasha, where you will have a stopover for a boat ride and a walking safari among the wildlife on Crescent Island before proceeding on the on the long drive south to Amboseli National Park, with lunch on the way, arriving in the late afternoon/early evening for rest. Dinner and overnight at AA Amboseli Lodge.

Day 5: Amboseli National Park Full Day (FB)
Spend the whole day in Amboseli on a full day game drive from 8:45 AM – 6:00 PM. The park is famous for its large herds of elephants, which gather in the swamps fed by Kilimanjaro’s snowmelt, and for clear views of Africa’s highest mountain on a good morning. Look out for lions, cheetahs, buffalo, giraffes, zebras and hundreds of species of birds. All meals and overnight at AA Amboseli Lodge.

Day 6: Amboseli – Nairobi (B)
Head out on an early morning game drive 6:30 AM – 8:30 AM, when Kilimanjaro is often at its clearest, then return to the lodge for breakfast. Drive back to Nairobi, where we drop you at your hotel or the airport in the afternoon.
