This safari will take you to the best birding destination and our tour guides who have excellent knowledge on the local birds will ensure a great birding experience, exciting bird sightings, and a unique way to see Kenya.

Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi 

Arrive in Nairobi where you will spend your overnight stay. We shall then head out for an orientation tour of the town before paying a visit to the National Museum bird’s gallery for a lecture on birds before dusk engulfs and return to your hotel. Overnight at Sarova Panafric Hotel.

Day 2:Day Trip To Lake Magadi (FB)

After breakfast leave Nairobi and then drive to the southern side of Kenya with a picnic Lunch and to Lake Magadi located deep in the heart of Southern Kenya’s Masai land. The lake covers an area of 104 sq. km Soda Lake and is surrounded by vast natural salt flats. These sweltering plains prevent any animals from reaching the alkaline lake at its center. For this reason, thousands of flamingos descend on the Lake each year to feed on the algae and crustacea at the lake’s shore safe from any potential predators such as Fish eagle. Freshwater springs at the Lake’s shore attract a host of other birds like the specialty of this lake the Chestnut Banded Plover, Common Sandpiper, Common Greenshank, Wood Sandpiper to name a few. Later in the afternoon you will return to Nairobi arriving late evening. Dinner and overnight at Sarova Panafric Hotel.

Day 3: Nairobi – Lake Naivasha (FB)

After breakfast we depart from our Nairobi hotel for a scenic drive through the great North Road to Lake Naivasha. Stop en-route at the viewpoints of the Great Rift Valley for stunning views arriving Lake Naivasha by midmorning for bird walk before time for lunch at Naivasha Sawela Lodge. Lake Naivasha being a freshwater lake on the Rift floor is home to an incredible variety of species. Over 450 species have been recorded here. An afternoon option of either a boat ride or a visit to Hell’s Gate National Park before returning to your lodge. Dinner and overnight at Naivasha Sawela Lodge.

Day 4: Lake Naivasha -Lake Nakuru National Park (FB)

After breakfast, explore the rich bird filled gardens or an optional boat ride to the crescent island, then proceed to Lake Nakuru National Park arriving in time for lunch. It is the world’s famous haunt of flamingos. The landscape is picturesque areas of the sedge, marsh and grasslands alternating with rocky cliffs, and outcrops, stretches of yellow backed acacia woodland and on the eastern perimeter rocky hillsides covered with forest of grotesque looking euphorbia trees all set against a background of hilly broken country. Both lesser and greater flamingos occur abundantly as non-breeding visitors on Lake Nakuru, the former vastly the more the numerous. There is a great variety of other water birds including two interesting ducks, the cape pigeon a lover of blackish waters, and the stiff tailed maccoa duck, blacksmith plover, spurwing plover, crowned plover, kittliz’s plover. Birds of prey includes, lanner, long crested eagle, augur buzzard, red-chested cuckoo, lilac breasted roller, grey headed kisher and bronzy and variable sunbirds. Day 5: Lake Nakuru – Lake Baringo (FB)

After breakfast drive to lake Baringo one of the two freshwater lakes along the Great Rift Valley arriving in time mid – morning bird walk around the lodge before time for Lunch. Lake Baringo is fresh water has its own share of bird life species like the White-Faced Scopes Owl, Brimstone Canary, Bristol Crowned Starling, Goliath Heron, Little Weaver, Jackson’s and Hemprich’s Hornbill. After a relaxed lunch we’ll descend on to the cliffs to look for the white-faced Scopes owl, Black throated barbet, mouse collared tit before returning at the lodge. Dinner and overnight at Tumbili Cliffs Lodge.

Day 6: Lake Baringo-Samburu Game Reserve (BLD)

After breakfast leave for Samburu to arrive in time for lunch. Bird life is sparklingly numerous and colourful. There is no difficulty in seeing well over a hundred species of birds in a single day. Perhaps the most impressive sight is the immense flocks of helmeted and vulturine guineafowls which make their way each afternoon to the riverbank to drink, the latter resplent with white-streaked neck and brilliant blue underparts. Day 7: Samburu Game Reserve Full Day (BLD)

Pre breakfast, birdwatching and game drive is done full day with view of the Masai ostrich, buffalo springs, in the reserve of that name is the drinking place in the dry season for literally thousands of sand grouse and doves in addition to a galaxy of smaller birds the tiny pygmy falcon is common, the males blue grey and white the females with mahogany brown mantle. At a distance when perched, high in some acacia tree they distinctively resemble shrikes. the giant amongst eagles the martial eagles is often seen usually perched high on some vantage point alert for dikdik or guinea fowl. All meals and overnight at Samburu Simba Lodge.

Day 8: Samburu Game Reserve – Mount Kenya (BLD)

Have an early breakfast and depart for Mt. Kenya Naro Moru region to arrive for an early check in and lunch at your lodge. You will spend the whole day birding at this Montane Forest region. Rare species likely to be seen include Green Ibis, Lesser Spotted Eagle, Harrier Hawk, Rufous Sparrow hawk, Ayre’s Hawk Eagle. Black stork, Red Fronted Parrots, Green Ibis Common snipe, Mountain Buzzard, Bronze napped pigeon Mountain white-eye, Abbots Starling, Sharpe’s Starling, Mountain Oriole, and Thick-billed seedeater. Dinner and overnight at Naro Moru River Lodge.

Day 8: Mount Kenya – Nairobi (B)

After breakfast depart for Nairobi where your safari ends in a hotel or at the airport in time for your flight back home. End of our services.
