11 Day Kenya Safari: Samburu, Aberdares, Lake Baringo, Nakuru, Naivasha, Amboseli & Tsavo East
This 11-day Kenya safari covers the country from north to south. Start in the dry country of Samburu, spend a night at The Ark in the Aberdare forest, take a boat on Lake Baringo, then continue through the Rift Valley lakes of Nakuru and Naivasha before heading south to Amboseli and finally Tsavo East, Kenya’s largest park.
It is a great choice if you want variety: desert species, forest wildlife at a waterhole lit up at night, hundreds of bird species, Kilimanjaro views and big herds of elephants. We can adjust the route or add the Masai Mara on request.

Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi
On arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, your Explorer Kenya guide meets you, briefs you on the safari and transfers you to the Hilton Garden Inn. Overnight at the Hilton Garden Inn.

Day 2: Nairobi – Samburu National Reserve (FB)
After breakfast, drive north past Mount Kenya, crossing the equator, into the semi-arid country of Samburu along the Ewaso Nyiro River. Game drive on the way to Ashnil Samburu Camp for lunch. In the late afternoon, go out in search of the “Samburu Special Five”: the reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, gerenuk, Somali ostrich and Beisa oryx. Dinner and overnight at Ashnil Samburu Camp.

Day 3: Samburu Full Day (FB)
Spend the day exploring the reserve, with game drives in the cooler morning and late afternoon and a rest at camp during the midday heat. Look for elephants along the river and for lions, leopards and cheetahs. Dinner and overnight at Ashnil Samburu Camp.

Day 4: Samburu – Aberdare National Park (FB)
After breakfast, drive south to the Aberdare Country Club for lunch, then transfer up into the forest to The Ark, a lodge overlooking a floodlit waterhole and salt lick. From its viewing decks and ground-level hide, watch elephants, buffalo and forest antelope come to drink, and ask to be woken by buzzer if something special appears during the night. Dinner and overnight at The Ark.

Day 5: Aberdares – Lake Baringo (FB)
After breakfast, drive north-west into the Rift Valley to Lake Baringo, one of its few freshwater lakes, arriving at Tumbili Cliff Lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, take a boat ride on the lake to see hippos, crocodiles and some of the more than 470 bird species recorded here, and watch the fish eagles swoop for fish. Dinner and overnight at Tumbili Cliff Lodge.

Day 6: Lake Baringo – Lake Nakuru National Park (FB)
After breakfast, drive south to Lake Nakuru National Park, arriving at Sarova Lion Hill Game Lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, game drive in this rhino sanctuary, looking for black and white rhinos, Rothschild’s giraffes, buffalo, lions and leopards. Depending on water levels, flamingos and pelicans gather along the shore. Dinner and overnight at Sarova Lion Hill Game Lodge.

Day 7: Lake Nakuru – Lake Naivasha (FB)
Go out on an early morning game drive, when the animals are most active, then return for breakfast and drive to Lake Naivasha, arriving at Lake Naivasha Simba Lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, take a boat ride on the lake, then land on Crescent Island for a guided walk among giraffes, zebras, wildebeest and waterbuck. Dinner and overnight at Lake Naivasha Simba Lodge.

Day 8: Lake Naivasha – Amboseli National Park (FB)
After an early breakfast, drive via Nairobi to Amboseli, arriving at AA Lodge Amboseli in time for lunch. At around 4:00 PM, head out on an afternoon game drive in the park, famous for its large herds of elephants. Dinner and overnight at AA Lodge Amboseli.

Day 9: Amboseli Full Day (FB)
Rise early for tea or coffee and a morning game drive, the best time to see Mount Kilimanjaro clear of cloud. Return for breakfast, then set out with a picnic lunch for a full day in the park, looking for elephants, lions, buffalo, giraffes and the birds of the swamps. Dinner and overnight at AA Lodge Amboseli.

Day 10: Amboseli – Tsavo East National Park (FB)
After breakfast, drive east to Tsavo East, arriving at Ashnil Aruba Lodge beside the Aruba Dam for lunch. In the afternoon, game drive in Kenya’s largest park, known for its red-dust elephants, as well as lions, buffalo, giraffes, zebras and hartebeest. Dinner and overnight at Ashnil Aruba Lodge.

Day 11: Tsavo East – Nairobi (B)
Enjoy an early morning game drive with views of the Yatta Plateau, one of the longest lava flows in the world, then return for breakfast and drive back to Nairobi, arriving in the late afternoon for drop-off at your hotel or the airport.
