7 Day Welcome to Kenya Safari: Aberdares, Ol Pejeta, Lake Nakuru, Naivasha & Masai Mara
This seven-day Welcome to Kenya safari is a full introduction to the country’s highlands, Rift Valley and savannah on a private trip from Nairobi. Walk to the waterfalls of the Aberdares, spend a full day among the rhinos and chimpanzees of Ol Pejeta Conservancy, stand at the foot of Thomson’s Falls, and look for rhinos and Rothschild’s giraffes at Lake Nakuru.
After cycling and hiking through the gorges of Hell’s Gate at Lake Naivasha, finish with two nights at Mara Maisha Camp in the Masai Mara, with a full day on the plains for lions, leopards, cheetahs and, from July to October, the wildebeest migration.

By road
Day 1: Nairobi – Aberdare National Park – Ol Pejeta (LD)
We collect you from your Nairobi hotel or the airport in the morning and drive north into the green farmland of the central highlands to Aberdare National Park. Spend the middle of the day in the park’s montane forest and moorland, walking to its waterfalls and enjoying a packed lunch with views over the range. In the afternoon, continue to the Sweetwaters area near Nanyuki and check in at Maisha Sweetwaters Camp in Ol Pejeta Conservancy for a rest before dinner. Dinner and overnight at Maisha Sweetwaters Camp.

Day 2: Ol Pejeta Conservancy Full Day (FB)
Spend a full day game driving in Ol Pejeta with a packed lunch. The conservancy is East Africa’s largest black rhino sanctuary and home to the last two northern white rhinos, as well as elephants, lions, cheetahs, buffalo, Grevy’s zebras and Jackson’s hartebeest, all with Mount Kenya as a backdrop. Visit the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary, a refuge for rescued chimpanzees. Dinner and overnight at Maisha Sweetwaters Camp.

Day 3: Ol Pejeta – Thomson’s Falls – Lake Nakuru (FB)
After breakfast, drive west, stopping at a viewpoint over the Great Rift Valley before reaching Nyahururu and Thomson’s Falls Lodge. Here the Ewaso Narok River drops about 74 metres over the edge of the Laikipia plateau, and you walk down the path to the bottom of the falls. Continue to Lake Nakuru, arriving at Egret Savannah Camp for lunch. In the afternoon, game drive in Lake Nakuru National Park, a sanctuary for black and white rhinos and Rothschild’s giraffes, with buffalo, lions, leopards and, depending on water levels, flamingos and pelicans along the shore. Dinner and overnight at Egret Savannah Camp.

Day 4: Lake Nakuru – Lake Naivasha & Hell’s Gate (FB)
Go out on an early morning game drive, when the animals are most active, then return for breakfast and drive to Lake Naivasha, arriving at Lake Naivasha Simba Lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, visit Hell’s Gate National Park, one of the few Kenyan parks you can explore by bicycle and on foot. Cycle past zebras, giraffes and buffalo beneath the cliffs and rock towers, then hike with a guide into the gorge, where hot springs and steam vents show the area’s geothermal activity. Dinner and overnight at Lake Naivasha Simba Lodge.

Day 5: Lake Naivasha – Masai Mara (FB)
After breakfast, drive via Narok to the Masai Mara, arriving at Mara Maisha Camp near Talek Gate for lunch. In the afternoon, head out on your first game drive in Kenya’s best-known reserve. Dinner and overnight at Mara Maisha Camp.

Day 6: Masai Mara Full Day (FB)
Take a picnic lunch for a full day on the plains, looking for lions, leopards and cheetahs hunting among the herds of wildebeest, zebras and gazelles, as well as elephants, buffalo and giraffes. From July to October, the wildebeest migration arrives from the Serengeti. You can start the day with an optional balloon flight or visit a Maasai village in the afternoon. Dinner and overnight at Mara Maisha Camp.

Day 7: Masai Mara – Nairobi (B)
After breakfast, check out and drive back to Nairobi, arriving in the afternoon for drop-off at your hotel or at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your flight home.
