Kenya Camping Safari
Masai Mara, Lake Nakuru & Amboseli Camping Safari
Gone are the days we used to pitch dome tents and take days without having a bath in the wild on a Kenya camping safari. In this times, all parks have semi permanent camps located at the border of the parks that offer simple and well priced accommodation, the comfort of a bed and bed linen, a hot water shower and flush toilet in the tent that has a permanent roof. The tent is comfortable and clean with no frills or luxury but good enough for those willing to do away with extra comforts but want to see the best of Kenyan wildlife at a reasonable price!
Day 1: Pick up at your hotel in Nairobi and head to Rift Valley view point for a short stop. Drive on to Narok town where you stock up on snacks, bottled drinking water, soft or alcoholic beverages of your choice. Drive on to Masai Mara arriving for lunch at the Mara Sidai Budget Camp. Though the camp bears a dodgy history, of late the new managers have restored the clean and comfortable environment that clients are accustomed to so this camp will not disappoint. After unpacking and a short rest, head out to the park for an afternoon game drive till sunset. Dinner and overnight will be at the Mara Sidai Camp.
Day 2: Have breakfast before 7.00 AM then head out with a simple yet filling packed lunch into the park for a full day game drive. The camp is located at the Olomutiek gate of the Masai Mara but there is no boundary between the park and the camp therefore wildlife can roam about anywhere. You shall have a morning game drive until noon. Head out to the Mara River where you camp by acacia tree deep in the wild to have your picnic lunch. After a short rest proceed to the river to view crocodiles and hippos. Continue on an afternoon game drive till 4.30 PM when you head back to the camp to freshen up before Dinner and Overnight.
Day 3: You shall have breakfast and your last game drive in the Masai Mara until late in the morning at about 11.00 AM. Drive from Masai Mara to Narok town where you have lunch. Drive on to Nakuru town arriving in the early evening for rest, dinner and overnight at Hotel Chester located in the middle of Nakuru town.
Day 4: Rise up very early for breakfast and head out for an early morning game drive at Lake Nakuru National Park. This is the best time to view carnivores as they return from their night hunt.
Lake Nakuru is a relatively small park and can be covered within the number of hours you are here. You will be able to spot hyenas, lions, and leopards, white and black rhinos, and lots of birdlife amongst other animals in the park. Leave the park at 11.30 Am and drive to Amboseli National park with lunch stopover en route. Arrive in Amboseli in the late afternoon where you have a game drive till evening. Enjoy dinner, rest and overnight at Amboseli AA Tented Camp.
Day 5: After breakfast, head out to packed lunch for a full day game drive in Amboseli National Park. This park covers 392 sq Kms yet has an abundance of wildlife. Its main attraction is encounters with the Masai tribe, Spectacular views of Mt Kilimanjaro and a chance to free ranging elephants. Have Lunch at the observation hill picnic site where you have great views of the park and surrounding plains before continuing on your afternoon game drive. Have dinner and spend your night at Amboseli AA Tented Camp.
Day 6: Have breakfast and enjoy your last game drive in the Amboseli Park before heading back to Nairobi where your safari comes to an end. Drop off at the airport or your Nairobi hotel.
