The modest Lemala Ngorongoro is nestled in a wonderful ancient acacia woodland along the rim of the famous Ngorongoro Crater. A primary advantage of staying at Lemala Ngorongoro is the quick and simple drive down on to the crater floor in the morning; Lemala visitors generally get an hour’s head start over those descending through the considerably busier Seneto crater access route on the western rim. And, of course, you are welcome to stay longer in the afternoon before returning to camp. Because Africa’s game is most active in the early morning and late afternoon, Lemala tourists will have a greater wildlife encounter.
Game drives from camp may begin as early as 6.15 a.m., and visitors can be down among Ngorongoro’s plentiful animals on the floor in as little as 10-15 minutes – essential for photographers who require the finest light conditions. Escorted treks into the bush and around the crater rim are also possible with an armed ranger and Maasai guide.
